Budget Accountability Clock

Ensuring Timely Action for Michigan’s Future

Days without financial certainty for students

Michigan’s state budget should have been passed by July 1. This counter shows the number of days since then.

Our Kids Are Counting On You — Let’s Get It Done

Launch Michigan calls on Governor Whitmer and the Michigan Legislature to prioritize a timely, responsible education budget that:

  • Fully supports K-12 and higher education, ensuring every Michigan student has access to the resources they need to succeed.

  • Provides stability and certainty to our school districts, allowing them to plan for the upcoming school year without delays.

  • Demonstrates a commitment to Michigan’s long-term success by acting decisively, even in the face of federal uncertainty.

We cannot afford to wait. The stakes are too high. Our students, educators, and communities depend on it.

We all want what's best for Michigan's students - Let’s Get It Done.

Why This Matters

At Launch Michigan, we believe in the power of accountability — for all of us. Our work has always focused on fostering mutual responsibility among Michigan’s leaders, educators, and communities to ensure that every student has access to an equitable, high-quality education. That’s why we’re launching the Budget Accountability Clock, a new initiative to track the passage of time without a finalized state budget for Michigan’s fiscal year.

As we enter a crucial phase of Michigan’s fiscal year, it’s essential that our state leadership prioritizes a timely, responsible budget to ensure that Michigan’s schools, students, and communities have the support they need to succeed. The clock serves as a visible reminder of how much time has passed since July 1st — Michigan's budget deadline — without a completed budget.

A timely budget is critical for the stability of Michigan’s education system. Our schools, districts, and communities rely on certainty and clarity about funding as they make decisions and plan for the upcoming year. Delays in the state education budget create confusion, disrupt planning, and place unnecessary stress on the people who are responsible for delivering a quality education to Michigan’s children.

Launch Michigan champions the idea of reciprocal accountability: the shared responsibility between government, education leaders, and the communities we serve. State leaders must act decisively and responsibly. In a time when federal funding may be delayed or uncertain, our state leaders must ensure that Michigan’s schools and communities are fully supported through a timely and comprehensive budget.
